Our client is looking to hire a Draftsperson (CAD / BIM) to join their dynamic team within their funky, vibrant, FUN Calgary office.

This is a work hard, play hard group! Bring your gym bag for personal training sessions, badminton tournaments or to practice your jump shot, all on site! Yes, they have a full basketball court, badminton court and gym in their office. Attitude is everything and the ideal new addition will be looking to put down roots and be ready for a career, not just a job.

This person will be responsible for the design and drafting of visual plans / guidelines for pending projects and provision of the technical drawings. The ideal candidate will be eager to be part of a collaborative environment, confidently ensuring all elements of the design process are executed smoothly, all the while being open to collective problem solving and trouble shooting.


Duties and Responsibilities: 

The key job functions are:

  • Conducting 3D visualization and applying in 2D / 3D shop and fabrication drawings
  • Reading and interpreting architectural / structural drawings and other technical documentation related to the project and applying it in shop and fabrication drawings
  • Communicating verbal and written technical information
  • Interacting, consulting, and coordinating regularly with co-drafters, project coordinators and managers, as well as site / shop colleagues such as fabricators, installers, glaziers, and foremen
  • Coordinating and consulting with architects, general contractors, suppliers, contractors, and clients as needed
  • Learning about new construction technology
  • Communicating any substantial plan changes to the purchasing / estimating department
  • Creating and drafting designs from verbal or written instructions and change as needed
  • Ensuring that anticipated problems in manufacturing, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the drawings produced
  • Interpreting general designs prepared by others and completing details
  • Conducting follow-up where necessary
  • Supervising junior drafters as instructed by the Drafting / Design Manager
  • Exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data
  • As requested by PM, providing input into budgets and proposals
  • Undertaking other duties as required


Education:

Engineering Design and Drafting Technology SAIT Program or similar (Must)


Qualifications: 

  • Fluent in Drafting / Design software: AutoCAD is required and other software such as Revit / BIM and SketchUp
  • Vaccine mandate in effect


Experience:

  • 3+ years in related field required – ability to read shop and fabrication drawings for projects
  • 5-7 years’ experience in the industry, or commercial architect firm required
  • Basic working knowledge of Architectural, Engineering & Construction concepts required
  • Basic skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and/or similar software required
  • Ability to adapt new construction technology, procedures or methods related to the industry
  • Ability to design around specific budget parameters
  • Ability to create sketches by hand

Base Salary: $65,000 – 75,000 per year

Work Hours:

  • 40 hours per week
  • Flexible Hours – Starting between 7am and 9am


Remote Work:

This position is not remote and required to be on-site.
